Proudly Manufacturing Electrical Cable and Coils in Britain for Over 60 Years

Every story has a beginning and ours starts with a journey.

In 1964, George and Anne Greig travelled to Connecticut in the USA. During that visit, they met Bob Burkle, CEO, of a company called Autac USA and formed a long-term relationship built on trust, shared ambition and opportunity. What began as a conversation grew into a vision. They returned to the UK determined to build something of our own.

In December 1964, Autac Products Limited was established.

Our first premises were on South Street in Alderley Edge, Cheshire. The early days were hands on and driven by hard work. We imported cable, fitted them with plugs and supplied them to the UK market. It was honest, practical work carried out by a small team who believed that if we focused on quality and service, we would build something that lasted.

By 1980, the economic climate had become increasingly challenging. Exchange rates were volatile, costs were rising and importing became more difficult and unpredictable. These pressures created real challenges for us and for George.

But challenge often brings clarity.

Rather than accept uncertainty, George began thinking differently. What if we produced our own cable? What if we controlled the process ourselves? That thinking became a turning point.

In 1983, we relocated from Alderley Edge to Bollin Cable Works in Macclesfield, Cheshire. This was more than a move. It marked the start of a new venture. Bollin became our first true manufacturing facility and laid the foundation for our future in production.

In 1984, we installed our first extrusion line and began manufacturing our own cable. It was a bold decision during uncertain times, but it transformed us. We were no longer simply importing and assembling. We were manufacturing electrical cable and coils ourselves, building the expertise that continues to define us today.

In 1986, Sallie Lowe joined us as an Office Junior. At the time, it was simply another new starter, but it would become an important part of our story. Over the years, Sallie grew with the business, learning aspects of our operations and becoming deeply connected to our progress.

As the business matured, it remained firmly within the family. Leadership was passed down to George’s daughters and son-in-law, Simon Pearce, continuing our identity as a family business. In 2000, Simon was announced as Managing Director, guiding us through a period of further development while preserving the values we were built upon. It was not just a change in leadership, but the continuation of a family legacy.

In 2001, we introduced advanced product testing to ensure the integrity and reliability of every cable and coil we produced. Strengthening quality assurance was a natural step for us, reinforcing the trust our customers placed in our products.

In 2015, Bollin Holdings Ltd was formed, giving us a strong structure for the future.

Then in 2016, after 30 years of dedication and service, Sallie Lowe and her husband David Lowe completed their acquisition of the business. This marked the beginning of our third-generation family chapter. Once again, the business remained in the hands of people who understood its history, its people and its potential.

2026 marks 10 years since David and Sallie Lowe bought the business. Over the past decade, we have strengthened our processes, supported our teams across every department and continued investing in British manufacturing.

Alongside our established electrical cable and coil manufacturing, we have expanded into assemblies and EV cable solutions, responding to evolving market needs. In 2023, we opened our second site at Guildford House, creating additional capacity for growth. That same year, we introduced four dedicated business brands, Autac Commercial Vehicle (CV), Autac Bespoke, Autac Assemblies and Autac Electric Vehicle (EV), reflecting both our heritage and our forward-thinking approach.

Today, we remain proudly based in Macclesfield, Cheshire. Our products are made in Britain by skilled people who care deeply about their craft. As an ISO 9001 accredited manufacturer, quality runs through every stage of our work, from extrusion and moulding to advanced testing and final inspection.

We continue to invest in new machinery to support quality, consistency and growth. Recent additions include a new moulding machine, testing machine and additional supporting tools. These investments allow us to refine our processes and strengthen what we deliver, while maintaining the hands on, family led approach that has defined us for over six decades.

From a visit to Connecticut in 1964 to a third-generation British family manufacturer today, our journey has been shaped by resilience, belief and a commitment to always move forward.

What truly defines us is not only where we have been, it is how we work today. We believe in teamwork, working together across every area of the business to achieve the best possible outcomes for our customers. We value consistency, maintaining the same level of quality and care from your very first conversation with us through to the delivery of your finished product. We focus on efficiency, always looking to maximise results while never compromising on standards.

Our professionalism is reflected in the way we conduct ourselves every day, with clear communication, accountability and respect for the responsibilities entrusted to us. Honesty guides our approach, and we will always be open and straightforward in our assessment of your requirements and in how best to meet them. In everything we do, we strive to be the best, continually improving and working to be better than we were yesterday.

For over 60 years, we have evolved, invested and grown, but our purpose remains clear: Helping You to Succeed.
