We’re running a series of posts on different team members here at Autac: what they bring to the business and their contribution in delivering what you need as a customer.
This time, it’s the turn of Harley Del-Rio.
Here, he shares more about his responsibilities and what he loves most about working at Autac.
About my role
I joined the business in early 2021. My role marries the two responsibilities of purchasing and planning: I develop, lead and execute the company’s purchasing strategies and set up partnerships with vendors and suppliers of choice, as well as coordinate and plan production schedules.
No two days are the same for me. As you can imagine, planning is fast-paced and we need to be agile to best meet changing customer demands.
The activities I undertake need constant re-tuning to make sure our production processes are as efficient and effective as possible. That means preparing and processing requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and equipment in a timely manner. Taking care of data to ensure sound management of all goods moving in and out. Maintaining inventories of materials or supplies necessary to meet production demands. And of course, monitoring supplier performance to assess ability to meet quality and delivery requirements. At Autac, we choose to only work with the very best in suppliers and we take care to ensure that the quality standards we agreed at the outset are maintained throughout our supplier relationships.
I love the fast-paced nature of my industry, and I’m adept at understanding the challenges it faces – particularly when it comes to the fluctuating prices of raw materials – and how my actions can positively impact our customers’ experience.
What I bring to Autac
I’ve worked for some years now in the electrical and electronic manufacturing industry. Some of what I’ve learnt has been self-taught, and some of it guided learning from some great people. I started my career in shop floor assembly before progressing to purchasing and planning, so I’ve been at both ends of the production process. I’ve seen first-hand how waste elimination can be implemented, including through the TIM WOODS approach to eight deadly wastes, as well as through lean awareness.
I’m an active member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply, and am currently in the process of completing my Manufacturers Alliance’ leadership programme.
What I like most about my job
The project that has really captured my interest is the full supplier data upload onto our MRP system. Data management may seem a little boring to some (!) but, once we have all the relevant data on the system, we can run ‘intelligent purchasing’; in other words, our most efficient material management ever.
My superpower is…
I train in MMA (mixed martial arts), Brazilian jiu-jitsu and wrestling at least five times a week.
What makes Autac so special?
Autac is a great place to work, and for so many reasons. What sticks out for me is definitely the team. From the shop floor staff to the directors and owners, it’s very much an ‘open door policy’. It means that communication runs freely, so there’s a trust and willingness to help each other, no matter what the issue. I really like that there are so many personal development opportunities within the business.
